PeopleSoft Managed Services (Case Study)

PeopleSoft is still going strong with an estimated four thousand plus (4886) application installations thanks to customer-driven innovation, continuous investment, and a global product development team one thousand (1,000) strong. Features such as Selective Adoption, Simplified Analytics, Elastic Search, WorkCenters, Fluid UI, and Clustered Environments maintain PeopleSoft’s position as a powerful solution for businesses operations globally. However, PeopleSoft resources have become increasingly hard to find.

PeopleSoft, Inc. was founded in 1987 and quickly became the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) of choice for many organizations. PeopleSoft further evolved into Financials, CRM, Campus Solutions, and Portal technologies. With a strong market presence PeopleSoft supported a robust network of system integrators and independent consultants. This large pool of service providers and resources was readily available at a client’s call for help. After Oracle’s hostile take-over of PeopleSoft in 2005 and subsequent announcement of plans for a “Fusion” product that would combine the best of Oracle E-Business, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards into one system prompted many service providers and independent consultants to look for a new niche. This lowered the number of go-to system integrators and consultants available at the time. Ultimately, Oracle Fusion did not come to fruition before the market was swept up in the “Cloud” movement causing Oracle to re-focus away from on-premise applications to develop Cloud products to meet market demand. As a result of the studder-step Oracle exhibited with Fusion on-premise and strong demand from the PeopleSoft user community Oracle extended support. Oracle continues to roll out innovation in PeopleSoft technology today. The market movement away from on-premise applications to Software as a Service (SaaS)  has led many PeopleSoft consultants to transition their skills to the relevant SaaS partner pillar for their expertise in Workday, Oracle Cloud, etc. The confluence of this with the sunsetting of many senior consultants has further diminished the talent pool available while organizations are losing internal PeopleSoft resources to retirement. Thirty-three (33) years after its initial release PeopleSoft has provide many with long, successful, and profitable careers. Ultimately, the availability of “Best-of-Bread” independent consultants and PeopleSoft specialized system integration companies has become harder to find while demand continues.
